Zanzibar, an island steeped in history for over 20,000 years, has always been a strategic port and a vital base, thanks to its unparalleled geographical location. Understanding this benefit, the Sultans of Zanzibar built a protected, definsible harbor that would later become Zanzibar City (Stone Town), on the Swahili Coast. This landmark settlement becomes a bridge between the African Great Lakes, the Arabian Peninsula, and the Indian subcontinent, forever entwining its legacy with the currents of time.
To navigate the intricate politics and power of such a strategic port, the Sultans needed a sanctuary - a place of rest, peace, and tranquility, where the mind could find clarity once more. Thus, the beautiful island palace retreat in Bawe was born.
